Marine Science Adventure is a once-in-a-lifetime marine science field trip. During which, a variety of marine habitats are explored. Throughout these explorations, teachers, chaperones and students experience hands-on activities including the collection, observation and investigation of a wide variety of marine species.
Marine Science Adventures are tailored to meet your school’s needs and may include the following activities:
- Ecosystem explorations
- Hands-on experiences such as seining.
- Specimen collections
- Night excursions
- Loggerhead sea turtle demonstration
- Tour of Fort Morgan
- Wild Native Boat Tours
- Alligator Alley
The Gulf Shores Beach Retreat has partnered with Marine Science Adventures to provide an incredible experience your students will love. The Gulf of Mexico and its fabulous beaches are only steps away from this two-story, private facility.
The Gulf Shores Beach Retreat includes the following amenities:
- A fully equipped commercial kitchen
- Recreation (volleyball courts, basketball goals and swimming pools)
- Student bunks and bathrooms
- Chaperone rooms with private bathrooms
- Total sleeping capacity of 170
Dr. John Simpson leads the Marine Science Adventures field trips.
Dr. John Simpson leads the Marine Science Adventures ecology lab. He has over 30 years experience serving as a marine biology field trip leader for schools from elementary through college age students. He has served as an instructor at the University of Alabama, Jacksonville State University, and numerous other community colleges in the state of Alabama. Dr. Simpson also served as the Director of the University of Alabama/Gadsden center, Dean of Math, Science, Engineering and Aquaculture at Gadsden State Community College. Dr. Simpson has a passion and enthusiasm for educating students about the Gulf Coast environment and all of it’s mysteries and wonders.
